We’ve all know “clinical experts” in our field who have no business actually dealing with patients. It always amazes me that there is a portion of physical, occupational and speech therapy professionals who either ”aren’t good with patients” or are “forgettable” as therapists.

As therapy professionals who treat privately, we need to make sure that we have excellent clinical skills AND are memorable.

Be Memorable? Can’t I Just Be Excellent?

Nope. Your clinical skills or knowledge might have gotten you through graduate school, but unless you’re personality, flavor and values are unforgettable, you won’t be able to:

  • get a regular job
  • get private patient referrals
  • attract (and keep!) ideal private patients

To be memorable, you need to be able to describe yourself in two or three core concepts. These concepts will help others understand who you are as a therapist and what clients you’ll make the biggest difference for.

What Makes You Memorable?

Who I Serve

  • Adult survivors of stroke and brain injury
  • Highly motivated patients and family members
  • Most patients are private pay (i.e. at least somewhat wealthy) or have BCBS Health Insurance

How You Work

  • I see patients in their home or community location or via telepractice
  • I do both evaluations and treatment
  • My sessions last between one – two hours
  • I include family members with treatment/goal planning

Your Unique Flavor

  • Technologically savvy
  • I’m Southern
  • Have both clinical and academic experience
  • Have a wide variety of interests- can talk about a lot of things

Your Values

  • I’m friendly, kind and supportive
  • I don’t work on weekends
  • I set realistic expectations
  • I provide functional therapy to ensure carryover

What makes YOU memorable?

Make sure to include your: clinical skills, career and life experience, philosphy on treatment, personality, etc.
