This past year, I have purchased several therapy materials to use with my private patients. Last year, many of my private patients were adults with aphasia, so I was able to use many of my purchased materials with several patients. I bought materials that were both high and low-tech and that would be used exclusively for my private practice. Keeping track of my receipts helped me ensure that I would be able to get a tax deduction for my business-related materials.

In 2009 I bought the following to use with several adults with aphasia:

  1. Language-based education books ($36.72)
  2. iPod apps for adults with aphasia ($39.00 in apps)
  3. Talking picture album to use as speech output devices ($9.99)

If you aren’t saving receipts for purchases such as these and then making a tax deduction on the cost, you should start now.

What kinds of therapy materials have you bought to use with your patients? (Comments help everyone!)
